I don't know a lot aobut press releases, but I believe that article submissions are more effective if you have the time and tallent to write good, usefull, unique articles, and submit them to websites that allow a resource box with a dofollow link.

Press Release .. you must decide the theme of your story. A press release can be about a happening that influences your business, or it can be concerning a modification in your corporation that will concern your client base. Anything you decide to be your story, you must keep in mind to swathe the fundamentals ..

Article Submission ..In order to acquire higher page rank, you must submit to the right article submission sites. Using the right article submission sites, your articles will be reviewed promptly, show up in the search engines quickly, provide you with plenty of traffic, and improve the Page Rank of your site.

A press release is typically some type of business announcement. Grand opening. New staff member. New product line. Winning an award...

Article syndication can be about virtually anything you want to write about.

There are different sites suited for each kind of submission (article vs press release).

I think article submission you can use it effectively to increase your search engine ranking, while press release written or recorded for the purpose of announcing something claimed as having news value. :)

There are several press releases sites as well that can be used to gain inbound links. The best ones charge money. More than what the inbound link would be worth. But there are some free ones as well. Definitely should have this in your bag of tricks!
